A Summit in Sharnbrook?

A Summit in Sharnbrook?

Always on the look out for something new, we started out from Souldrop village yesterday and headed along the Forty Foot Lane by-way towards Podington.  We stumbled across Sharnbrook Summit, a small nature reserve of 1.6km in length which lies on what can best be described as a mound above a rail tunnel.  It was originally installed to help Victorian steam trains avoid having to climb up the land there.  The route runs both sides of the Lane, starting at the railway bridge over the mainline tracks.  To the North it follows a single track path  in the direction of Wymington to Wymington Meadow.

So, two 'finds' in one day which were new to us - Sharnbrook Summit and Wymington Meadow. I will definitely make a point of going back with one of my NW groups - perhaps in the Spring when things have dried out a little hopefully!  In the meantime, please see the Wildlife Trust entry for both here .

In total, we walked about 5.5 miles - perfect for a few hours out in the fresh air with time for a quick drink in the Bedford Arms too!.   Maps and a few, rather grey pics from the day, below!

Only thing I'd like to know is why the Forty Foot Lane is called the Forty Foot Lane.  It's definitely not forty foot, long or wide!

FreshAir NW in the Press!

FreshAir NW in the Press!

Dead chuffed to be featured in the Feb/March edition of Ouse Valley Living magazine.  Please check the article out here.  I am really happy about the article and I've had some great feedback; I think it really did everything I hoped to convey about the benefits of Nordic Walking.

As a result, I'm adding a couple of additional options for the Introduction to Nordic Walking course on Monday and Saturday mornings, based in the Harrold Odell Country Park.

In other news, I am also planning in March to start running a regular session in and around Emberton Country Park shortly. Please send me an email or contact me via the Contact page if you are interested.

Further session and booking details for the Introduction to Nordic Walking courses can be accessed via the links on this page.  Once you have attended a free taster you can book on to any of these.  A snapshot of the session times for the next two weeks is printed below too.

Happy Nordic Walking!

Before the rain came

Snapped this pic of the lovely light and cloud formations, contrasting with the crisp frost on the trail.  No other nordic walkers in sight, but the trail up from the Fox House Inn up to the Upper Burbage Bridge, nr Hathersage and around was actually perfect.  Simon was feeling very pleased with himself as he overheard a trail walker passing by saying 'so is that nordic walking?' - which shows he's definitely getting it right!
